One of the most anticipated cameras of this year, or better to say of the decade, the Nikon D800 has been launched by the company and that too with a high range of price tag of about $2399.99. The price tag tells many things about this camera, and what was the rumor all about.
The company has targeted the camera towards the high end market, and especially for those professionals in photography and for those enthusiasts who have got that much money to shed on a camera. But the company is very specific about the whole thing that this camera is neither the sequel nor the replacement of the previous model from the company, Nikon D700, but rather it is simply another camera from the house of Nikon which can sit side by side to the D700.

Distinguished Features Of Nikon D800
Slim and light weight
With the launch of the Nikon D800, the company has launched its second DSLR camera in this year 2012. With the much smaller size and lighter eight, the D800 has got many of those features which the company has provided in the first launch of the year that is Nikon D4. And the price has also been put at a lower range than the D4.
Multi-Cam 3500 FX Autofocus System
Those features which are included in D800 from the D4 are the EXSPEED 3 processor, the Multi-Cam 3500 FX autofocus system, and the 91k pixel metering system. This camera from Nikon has the capability to shoot in low light, mostly to shoot at night, with the focusing to -2EV and the capability to shoot at ISO 25,600. This way it is a must have for those professionals in this field.

Full HD Video Capturing Mode
The previous version D700 doesn’t have the feature of capturing videos, but the Nikon D800 has got the full HD video capturing mode. It not only offers HD video capturing but can also record 1080p videos at 30, 25 and 24 frames per second and that of 720p with 50 and 60 frames per second for capturing slow motion movies and that makes it a quite an awesome device.
Dual Memory Card Slot
Moreover, the dual memory card slot is another feature that has enhanced this camera from the D700. Though the use of the Compact Flash and SD have made it quite a bit complicated for the pros, but the dual slots are an advantage also, where you will never get out of memory ever from now.
Physical Features
The camera is made in such a way that it is both dust and splash resistant, making it a must have for the adventure photographers, especially those wild life ones, where you do not have to think about the dust getting into your camera anymore. The Lithium Ion EN-EL15 battery provides a constant as well as uninterrupted supply of power to this device. The total weight of this camera, without the lens kit, is about 900g or 31.75 oz, which is a bit on the higher side as the lenses will make it a bit heavier than other cameras of the same range. The dimensions of this camera are also a bit on the bigger side of the frame, of about 146 x 123 x 82 mm.

Optics
With the features like the phase detection, selective single point, tracking, face detection and live view, this camera has got everything to be loved by a professional in the field. Moreover, the 51 autofocus point makes it a great one while shooting on a go or where you can not select the perfect focus, tough the autofocus makes the whole performance rate go down by almost half when it is on manual mode.
Design and Body Structure & Price Review
There are in total two versions of the camera available in the market, having difference in the designs. The basic one or the Nikon D800 is about $400 less than the premium version of the same which is named D800E. The difference between these two versions is that the premium version has got the anti-aliasing filter removed in it, making the photographs much better than the standard one, like the details are resolved by much greater extent as a result of this. But this removal of the filter increases the chance of having false colors or the moiré patterning in the images. If you still want to have the premium one, you can always go for it.
Verdict
With a 3.2” LCD screen, the Nikon D800 provides a greater view of the object towards which it is aimed. But the unavailability of the touch screen and the limitation of having only 36mega pixel has disheartened the pros who have been waiting for this camera for quite a long time.
