Form
Sony Xperia S measures 128x64x10.6mm and weighs 144g whereas Samsung Galaxy S Advance is 123.2x63x9.7mm in size and weighs 120g. Galaxy S Advance shares its design with the Galaxy S but can still compete effectively with the new smartphones available in the market. The handset is quite thin and light and it gives a contemporary look with its curved corners.
On the other hand, Sony Xperia S is thick and heavy. It has un-softened corners and looks quite angular. The back panel is smooth and the front side looks aesthetic with a beautiful screen. Sony Xperia S definitely scores well in terms of design.

Display
Galaxy S Advance has a SuperAMOLED capacitive multi-touch display. The display is supported by a Gorilla Glass that gives a resolution of 800×480 pixels. It also offers a pixel density of 233 pixels.
Sony Xperia S also has a brilliant display. It comes with a capacitive multi-touch screen of 4.3 inches that offers an excellent resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The smartphone offers a 342 ppi pixel density. You can use 10 fingers on the screen simultaneously. It is also scratch resistant.
Storage
Samsung Galaxy S Advance offers 8GB or 16GB space with a RAM of 768MB and ROM of 2GB. The storage capacity can be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. Sony Xperia S offers a memory of 32GB but unfortunately, there is no card slot. Its memory cannot be expanded.
Samsung Galaxy S Advance is better in terms of storage. It has an option for 16GB or 32GB capacity through microSD card.

Processor
Sony Xperia S runs a 1.5GHz Qualcomm quad-core processor and uses MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset. The handset comes with an Adreno 220 GPU that enhances the functionality of the interface.
Samsung Galaxy S Advance comes with an ARM Cortex-A9 processor of 1GHz & Mali-400MP GPU. Galaxy S2 uses the same GPU. However, the Exynos used by S2 is much better than the NovaThor chip of Galaxy S Advance.
Sony Xperia S promises an effective performance with an improved processor as compared to its predecessors. Though Galaxy S Advance and Sony Xperia S are competitive in terms of processor but Xperia S still gives a better performance with more functionality.
Operating System
Both the smartphones run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Xperia S will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There is no information if Samsung would be upgrading the operating system of Galaxy S Advance.

Camera
Samsung Galaxy S Advance supports a 5MP camera that can take photos at a resolution of 2592×1944 pixels. The video is captured at 720p. There is a front facing camera of 1.3MP. Additional features are autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, LED flash, face & smile detection.
Sony Xperia S comes with a 12MP camera and gives a resolution of 4000×3000 pixels. It also has a CMOS sensor. It also features geo-tagging, autofocus, image stabilization, touch focus, 3D panoramic capture mode. The videos are captured at 1080p. With a 1.3MP front facing camera, you can perform functions like video calling.
Price
The price of Sony Xperia S has not been revealed yet whereas Samsung Galaxy S Advance will be available at Rs. 20,000 approx.

Sum Up
Sony Xperia S has an excellent display and camera setup. It outperforms Samsung Galaxy S Advance with its powerful features. The aesthetic design makes it worth buying. The only drawback is lack of expandable memory.
